The Ultimate Guide to Micro Weddings: Intimate, Personal, and Perfectly You

June 30, 20244 min read

Hey there, lovebirds! Planning a wedding can be an exhilarating yet overwhelming experience. If you're dreaming of a day that's intimate, personal, and stress-free, then a micro wedding might just be your perfect match. Let's dive into the world of micro weddings and explore their benefits, venue options, cost-effective planning tips, customization ideas, and some real-life success stories to inspire you.

1. Benefits of a Micro Wedding

First things first—what exactly is a micro wedding? Simply put, it's a smaller-scale celebration with typically fewer than 30 guests. But don't let the size fool you; these weddings pack a punch when it comes to intimacy and personalization.

Why Go Micro?

- Intimacy: With fewer guests, you'll have more quality time to spend with each one. Imagine actually being able to chat and laugh with everyone who came to celebrate your big day!

- Personalization: Smaller guest lists mean more room for unique touches that reflect your personality as a couple. Want to include quirky traditions or meaningful rituals? Go for it!

- Less Stress: Fewer moving parts mean less logistical chaos. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later for choosing simplicity over extravagance.

- Budget-Friendly: Fewer guests often translate to lower costs. This opens up opportunities to splurge on other elements like your dream dress or an unforgettable honeymoon.

2. Venue Options for Micro Weddings

Choosing the right venue sets the tone for your entire wedding day. Luckily, Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, and Waikato regions offer some fantastic spots perfect for intimate gatherings.

- Private Gardens: Imagine saying I do surrounded by lush greenery and blooming flowers.

- Boutique Hotels: These offer cozy settings with all the amenities you need.

- Beachfront or lakefront : Nothing beats the romance of exchanging vows with water as your backdrop.

3. Cost-Effective Planning for Micro Weddings

Weddings can be pricey affairs, but going micro offers plenty of ways to keep costs down without sacrificing style or fun.

Budget Tips

- Prioritize Your Must-Haves: Make a list of what matters most to you—be it photography, food, or entertainment—and allocate your budget accordingly.

- DIY Decor: Get crafty! Handmade decorations not only save money but also add a personal touch and if you're an artistic person you'll really enjoy the process of creating each detail.

- Opt for Off-Peak Dates: You can do anything with a micro wedding and this goes for the timing too. Why not get married in winter or as soon as the spring blooms begin to flower.

- Streamline Your Guest List: Focus on inviting close friends and family members who truly matter. Going micro is a great way to nicely tell those extended family members they can't come because 'we're haing a micro wedding and there's only enough numbers for emediate family.'

4. Customizing Your Micro Wedding

One of the best parts about having a micro wedding is the ability to tailor every detail to fit your vision perfectly while not being overwhelmed by all the decisions of a traditional wedding.

Personal Touches

- Unique Invitations: Send out beautifully designed invites that set the mood for your special day or create a Facebook Group and keep all of the details there.

- Custom Vows: Write heartfelt vows that reflect your journey together as a couple or your celebrant can have you repeat a standard set of readymade vows.

- Personalized Menu: Curate a menu featuring dishes you both love or even family recipes or head to your favourite resturant after.

5. Real-Life Micro Wedding Success Stories

There's nothing more inspiring than hearing from couples who've walked down this path before you. Here is a real-life success story that prove micro weddings can be just as magical—if not more so—than larger celebrations.

W&T came to me in May 2024, just a few weeks before their proposed wedding date. They had thought it would be nice to get married on Matariki, which would also be their 10 year anniversary (how cute). They had been engaged for over 4 years but with close family members passing they never felt the time was right until now.

When we met to discuss me being their celebrant, they knew where they wanted to get married but hadn't thought about anything else. They seemed to think because the wedding was just a small last minute one they couldn't make it special.

I encouraged them to go shopping for a nice outfit to wear that makes them both feel good (they decided on traditional Tongan outfits. I then reccomended a Rotorua based micro-wedding photographer Rhyan from Ark Collective who could capture their wedding day memories. Lastly, what would they do after the ceremony? well, they decided on booking in a family dinner at The Distinction Hotel. With their new plans locked in place, they were so excited for the day to come

So there you have it! Whether you're drawn by its intimacy or its budget-friendly nature—or maybe both—a micro wedding offers endless possibilities tailored specifically towards making YOUR day uniquely yours without any added stressors involved whatsoever!
